LIFTING & SLING WORK WITH A HELICOPTER

LIFTING & SLING WORK WITH A HELICOPTER

Precision lifting with a helicopter in Papua New Guinea.

Why use a helicopter? Helicopters are the transportation tool of choice around the world by civilians, military and humanitarian aid organisations. They can lift off and land from uneven terrains and remote places, can move faster and further than trucks and are not restricted to roads, bridges and other ground infrastructures such as airports and airstrips.

Helicopter lifting is a fast and efficient way to move materials and equipment to locations beyond the practical reach of the traditional modes of transport currently available.

Helicopter sling load-lifting, also known as longlining, in Papua New Guinea (PNG) can be an environmentally sound solution to timber harvesting, power transmission line construction, habitat restoration, environmental reclamation, petroleum, oil and gas exploration, remote camp construction/support, seismic and general heavy lift construction jobs such as bridges, buildings, drill rigs, high altitude remote communication infrastructure etc.

In general, helicopters can lift anything and we do it all safely and efficiently with thorough pre-flight planning, safety briefings before each and every job, using thoroughly trained and skilled personnel, resulting in reliable and precision placements of external loads.

Our highly experience loadmasters and ground-crew are specialists at preparing and rigging loads in a manner that all loads fly safely, securely and gracefully. Our pilots are highly experienced in vertical reference flying and are very familiar at carrying loads safely and efficiently with many years under their belts working in PNG, supported by highly skilled engineering teams that keep the fleet in the topmost condition.

We have a multitude of aircraft for external lifts up to 5,000kgs that are equipped with hooks for precision long-line work. We also have a large arrangement of lifting and rigging equipment to increase versatility such as multi-hook carousels, remote control hooks, lifting nets & skids, PVC carry bags, etc.

If heavy loads or high-value items must be moved securely and safely and the terrain is challenging or the destination is remote, then in most cases the best option is by helicopter.

Heli Niugini Limited commenced operations in the early 1980s when the then-parent company Heli Bougainville had one helicopter and operated in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. In the mid-1980s Heli Niugini was formed and relocated to Madang to capitalize on the increased opportunities as a result of the resource boom…

In 2007 a consortium of shareholders acquired a majority share in HNL The new shareholders brought extensive operational experience to HNL. The shareholders also brought with them significant global experience in helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft operations. With the new HNL Board at the time, the company upgraded and further expanded its fleet through an extensive growth program to maintain its competitive edge.

In the last five years, the company has been involved with some of the largest oil & gas companies in the world with their exploration programs in Papua New Guinea.

The current list of clients includes Total E&P and Repsol amongst other internationally recognised operators.

In recognition of its commitment to safety in aviation, HNL was awarded “Most improved contractor safety performance” by Repsol in 2015. The Board, Management and Staff are committed to providing a safe, reliable and professional service in a timely and cost-effective manner.
